$1.2 billion biotech center unveiled
Westchester is very close to establishing a $1.2 billion science and technology research facility in Valhalla.
The Westchester Bioscience and Technology Center could bring thousands of new jobs and millions of tax dollars.
It took county legislators more than a year to hammer out the deal with the county executive, but on Monday they agreed to give their OK for developers to go ahead with their plan to build the Westchester Bioscience and Technology Center.
The developer, Fareri Associates, will invest $1.2 billion to turn 60 acres of vacant land right next to the Westchester Medical Center into a state-of-the-art medical research park.
It will feature medical offices, retail space, restaurants, a hotel and a children science center. County Executive Rob Astorino says a project of this magnitude could add millions to the tax rolls and create thousands of new jobs.
Now that the county is on board, the project moves to the Town of Mount Pleasant for its approval. The town supervisor says that so far they like what they hear.
Officials say they plan to break ground within the next three years and have the whole facility completed within 10-15 years.
