Initiative started to empower LGBTQ people to run for office

An initiative was started in Westchester with the goal of educating, mobilizing and empowering more LGBTQ people to run for elected office.

Julie Troilo runs The Loft in White Plains and created the initiative Pride in Politics.

The initiative's first event will be a speaker's forum in two weeks.

Troilo also says that a member of the local transgender community will be announcing a historic bid for office this week.

Currently, there are eight elected officials in the country who belong to the transgender community.
