Annual Fathering Conference held at County Center
Westchester County provided help and resources for dads Tuesday at its annual Fathering Conference.
The annual conference, which is in its third year, was held at the County Center in White Plains.
Participant Oscar Covington, who is a father of five with custody of two, is also in a county-run parenting pilot program called REAL. The program is designed to help struggling single dads balance family, work and community.
"The REAL program is really helping me deal with all the issues I have to deal with as a single dad," he says.
County officials say the goal going forward is to keep fathers empowered and fatherhood in the forefront.
According to reports, nearly 50,000 children in Westchester County live with a single mother with no father present and over one-third of those children live below the poverty line.
