K-9 at Rockland County Jail thwarts drug hand-offs

A new police K-9 at Rockland County Jail is helping officers keep illegal drugs away from inmates.

Shaz and her handler Sgt. David Lowe are members of the jail's first K-9 narcotics detection team.

Shaz has been on the job for the past four months and has helped deputies sniff out two visitors who allegedly tried to enter the jail with drugs on them.

"They use their kids as drug mules, put the narcotics in their mouth and pass it orally," says Lowe.

Shaz is brought in daily for routine searches and visitation.
