Mount Vernon man indicted in shooting death of teen

A Mount Vernon man has been indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of a 13-year-old on New Year's Eve.

David Hardy will be arraigned Friday on second-degree murder, assault and other charges in the death of rising basketball star Shamoya McKenzie.

Police say 22-year old David Hardy shot and killed McKenzie last December as the eighth-grader sat in her mother's car near the 300 block of East Third Street in Mount Vernon.

Authorities say McKenzie wasn't a target in the shooting and that Hardy was aiming at a rival gang member named Prince Scott.

Hardy, who was on parole for a 2012 robbery conviction, is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail.
