Mom charged with child endangerment in shooting death of child

A Mount Vernon mother has been charged with endangerment of a child after an investigation into the 2015 shooting death of her 4-year-old child.

Officials say 24-year-old Tantania Manners was taken into custody Wednesday night by the Yonkers Police Department.

Her arrest came as a result of the investigation into the May 25, 2015 shooting death of her daughter, which took place at their family apartment on Walnut Street in Yonkers.

Manners was charged under the theory of creating an unsafe environment for her daughter by allowing sales and usage of narcotics in the home, as well as permitting illegal, unsecured, loaded firearms to be loaded and stored in the apartment.

Her daughter, Makayla, is believed to have located one of the firearms and shot herself once in the face. She died a week later.

Manners is being held on $5,000 bail.
