P.S. 105 students learn disaster preparedness with Red Cross Pillowcase Project

A Borough Park school is preparing students for natural disasters with help from the American Red Cross.
The Pillowcase Project teaches students in grades three through five how to handle hurricanes, so-called superstorms and fires at home.
At P.S. 105, Red Cross volunteers answered children's questions and showed them how to prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
One tip they were told is to feel doorknobs in fire situations with the back of their hands, where a burn would hurt less and be less likely to disable the hand.
They were also given pillowcases to take home in order to pack their own emergency kits.
