Two Hudson Valley women suffering from the same rare disease were brought together by a twist of fate.
Maureen Carter, of Chester, and Jo-Anne D'Addesio, of Thornwood, were both diagnosed with a rare liver disease called "primary biliary cholangitis" or PBC, around the same time their children met on Match.com.
The women say it was love at first sight for their kids, who are now married.
"It was meant to be I guess. For our kids and for us," says Carter.
As the women started talking, they found out they even had the same doctor.
"I had not even met a person with it, let alone even heard of it," says D’Addesio.
The women say, if undiagnosed, PBC – which causes the liver to shut down – can be fatal. They are sharing their story now to raise awareness and help others.
