Theater stabbing prompts security questions

YONKERS -

Residents are questioning whether there should be extra security at theaters following the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old employee at a movie theater.

As News 12 reported, 19-year-old Daij Thomas was stabbed to death Saturday in the lobby of the Showcase Cinema de Lux Theater at the Ridge Hill shopping center.

A security guard was monitoring the crowd outside the theater Monday afternoon. Some theaters, like the Regal Cinemas chain, also have random bag checks before entering the movies.

Some customers News 12 spoke with in Yonkers say it might be a good idea to see more security.

"I feel comfortable without security but majority of the families want to make sure they are safe and everything maybe armed guards and a security presence would deter these kinds of things,” says moviegoer Christopher Radzinski.

News 12 reached out to National Amusements, the owner of Showcase Cinema de Luxe, to ask if there are any plans to change security, but they did not respond.
