Disabled man fatally struck by delivery truck in New Rochelle

A 57-year-old disabled man lost his life Friday after being struck by a water delivery truck in New Rochelle.

According to police, the man, who walked with two metal crutches, had been at the Guidance Center on North Avenue. The center provides mental health and other services. Police say the man was apparently waiting for a family member to pick him up when something happened. They say they do not know if the victim fell into the path of the truck or stepped off the curb when the truck backed into him.

The truck will be inspected and the driver is cooperating with police.
