Third fire in as many days destroys Mount Vernon home
A house in Mount Vernon erupted in flames Friday, making it the third fire in as many days in the city.
Firefighters responded to the house on South 5th Avenue around 4 a.m. One of the two residents had to be rescued from his porch roof by firefighters. Neighbors were also forced out into the cold as the flames began to spread. Fire officials say the house was completely destroyed and the two houses on either side sustained damage.
Wednesday night a furniture warehouse was completely destroyed by fire. On Thursday, a space heater apparently caused a second-floor apartment to go up in flames. The cause of Friday?s fire is under investigation.
