Snowstorm threatens messy commute for Westchester drivers

With news of a major snowstorm, highway departments and residents geared up across Westchester County Tuesday.
Forecasters say the amount of snow accumulation will depend on where someone lives in the county. However, the forecast of ice mixing in with the snow has highway departments getting a jump start. Crews are placing a salt-brine mixture on the roads to help stop the snow and ice from bonding to the surface. Highway department officials say the fact that the storm is expected to be a long one will make it more difficult to deal with.
Meanwhile, residents spent the day buying supplies for the snow. Drivers are also prepared for a messy commute Wednesday morning. Commuters are urged to drive slowly and give themselves extra time to get to their destinations.
