New Rochelle man charged after argument escalates into violence

A New Rochelle man is charged with attempted murder Saturday after an argument at a bar escalated into violence.

Police say a fight between two men started inside Il Mulino Restaurant and Bar and spilled out onto Union Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Detectives say 26-year-old Sergio Catalan stabbed 33-year-old Marvin Alonzo several times in the arm, chest and leg with a switchblade. Police say Catalan took off, leaving a trail of blood. Police caught up with Catalan and both men were taken to Sound Shore Medical Center.

Neighbors who live near the incident say violence at Union Avenue bars has become common. Last year, a shooting at La Casa De Laya on Union Avenue left one man dead.
