Fire sparks evacuation of Cortlandt Manor methadone facility
(03/12/07) CORTLANDT MANOR ? About 30 firefighters descended on a methadone treatment facility in Cortlandt Manor Monday to battle thick smoke and flames.
The modular building is located on the grounds of Hudson Valley Hospital. It is the home of a treatment program that helps approximately 230 patients addicted to heroin. About a dozen people were inside the facility at the time of the fire, but everyone managed to make it out safely. Firefighters were forced to tear through three layers of the building?s roof in order to control the flames.
Despite the incident, hospital representatives say there will be no interruption of service to patients. Patients are asked to call Hudson Valley Hospital at (914) 737-9000.
