Yorktown school locks doors after report of gunshots
Reports of what sounded like gunshots Monday sent a Yorktown elementary school into a lock out situation. Possible gunfire near the George Washington Elementary School is being investigated by police and state troopers. The school locked its doors and ordered the children to remain where they were. Police cleared the scene by noon and will continue to patrol the area to determine whether there is a threat. A Verizon employee working near the scene believes the sound heard was actually the backfire of a pickup truck. Officials say that there may not have been a shooting at all, but it is better to err on the side of caution.
