Man opens fire inside packed Rockland courtroom

Shots rang out inside the Village of Sloatsburg Justice Court Monday night.
Police say the gunman, 60-year-old Leo Lewis, was about to be involved in a contentious civil lawsuit when he pulled a rifle out of a manila envelope.
?A male in the back of the courtroom produced a 22-caliber rifle that had been cut down, sawed off, and he fired a round at another party on the other side of the lawsuit,? Sgt. John Lynch, of the Ramapo Police Department, said.
Police say no one inside the courtroom was injured in the shooting. Authorities say Lewis fled the courtroom after a female Ramapo officer, who was inside the court, fired one round at him.
?He then ran down the staircase to the parking lot where a civilian was either going into court or leaving court and with his assistance the officer was able to tackle the suspect in the parking lot and place him under arrest,? Lynch said.
Lewis suffered injuries to his face during the incident and is now at Good Samaritan Hospital. He is expected to be arraigned and face charges for the incident.
