Yonkers water main break shuts down businesses

A major water main break in Yonkers forced some businesses to shut down and caused traffic headaches Thursday.
Crews arrived at Tuckahoe Road to clean up after the break, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. Businesses on the road between the Sprain Brook Parkway and the New York State Thruway have no water and many have closed for the day.
Schools in the area remained open despite the break. Residents in affected homes were forced to deal with low water pressure. Due to lane closures, traffic on Tuckahoe Road slowly crept by in each direction. Officials say the closures will probably last all day.
The commissioner of Public Works says the break could have been much worse if workers hadn?t isolated it and turned water back on to the rest of the city.
