Sleepy Hollow fire forces out residents, storeowners

A building fire in Sleepy Hollow forced tenants and business owners onto the street Thursday.
When firefighters responded to the building on Beekman Street around 9 a.m. flames were shooting out of the third floor. The building is made up of multiple apartments and businesses.
Firefighters poured huge amounts of water on to the roof as others rushed in to make sure everyone had gotten out. Three cats were also rescued from the burning building.
Fire officials say the fire apparently started in a third-floor apartment. The other apartments and businesses below suffered fire and water damage.
No one was injured, but one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
