Preventing Virgina Tech tragedy focus of Purchase drill

Police officers from across Westchester took part in a mock drill at Purchase College Friday in an effort to prevent a Virginia Tech-style tragedy.
The drill focused on a mock scenario involving a suspect with a gun inside one of the college's buildings. Police worked on how to handle the situation while police helicopters surrounded the campus. They also practiced handling mutual aid and making sure everything ran smoothly.
State University Police Chief Joseph Olenik says overall the drill worked very well. He says a few suggestions were made on how to improve things next time. One thing he would like to see done better is for responders to arrive at scenes quicker.
