Flames ravage two Hudson Valley homes
Unrelated fires destroyed two Orange County homes early Saturday morning.
Though the flames destroyed both homes, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
The first fire broke out in a Mount William Street house in Port Jervis. Fire officials say an electrical short in the attic caused the blaze. They believe the fire burned for six hours before the full eruption.
The family, visiting relatives, and pets were evacuated when the homeowner?s boyfriend smelled smoke. As fire officials attended the scene, they say they also evacuated an elderly neighbor to prevent any smoke-related injuries.
The other fire took place on James Drive in Nanuet. Fire officials say the homeowner wasn?t present when the flames broke out in the structure?s basement. The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
The Nanuet homeowner is staying with relatives nearby. The Red Cross is currently assisting the Port Jervis family.
