Police rule White Plains bomb scare a false alarm
? Police determined a bomb scare near the White Plains Library and Westchester County Courthouse was a false alarm after the safe detonation of a suspicious package Monday.
Personnel at the library and individuals near the courthouse were evacuated after a suitcase was discovered in a stairwell at approximately 8:30 a.m. The package was found in the rafters of the stairwell. Bomb squad officers later arrived at the scene and detonated the package, which was found to contain clothing and shoes.
Hours later, police say they learned a homeless man put the luggage at the location. Police say the man will not be arrested or charged.
