Andrea's Angel: Part II
A Chappaqua surgeon donated his time to help a little girl get a new ear that not only improved her hearing, but her self-esteem as well.
Seven-year-old Andrea Kuklewski has a congenital disorder called microtia, a condition that left her without an ear. Andrea?s mother, Lourdes, could not afford the operations to rebuild the girl?s left ear. Plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Sclafani donated his services and reconstructed an outer ear using cartilage from the girl?s ribs. Andrea?s inner ear was fine.
Over a period of six months, Andrea has had three trips to the operating table. Having a new ear and gaining the ability to hear better is a dream come true for the girl. Andrea's mother considers the gift of sound given by Dr. Sclafani a true miracle."Yes, I believe in angels and I found my angel in Chappaqua," Lourdes Kuklewski said.
