Mom pushes for anti-teen drinking 'Pact'
A Pelham mother is pushing to get the community?s help in putting an end to underage drinking.
Maureen Cross is the mother of five kids, four of whom are still teenagers. Her brainchild is called ?Pact,? and it asks residents to make a pact for the prevention of underage drinking and drug use.
It is the tragic cases involving teen drinking that inspired Cross. In December of 2005, 18-year-old Ralph Tarchine admitted he was drunk and high on marijuana when he crashed a car and killed 17-year-old Michael Plunkett, son of News 12 financial correspondent Bob Plunkett. Just two weeks ago, police say a 15-year-old was gang raped after passing out from drinking during a house party
While the program is in its infancy, Cross is already getting the support of police in Pelham and Pelham Manor. Cross also wants to expand the Pact program across Westchester.
