Wife uncovers alleged scam by husband, girlfriend

The wife of a Tarrytown sanitation worker helped uncover a case of insurance fraud involving her husband and his girlfriend, authorities say.

Police say Barbara Smith received a $200 bill for a sinus procedure consultation. Smith says she never went for a consultation and decided to investigate. Smith found out another woman was using her identity for medical reasons with help from her husband, police say.

According to police, Keith Smith used his wife?s personal information so his girlfriend, Judy Gilchrest, could get free medical treatment. Police are unsure how long the alleged scam has been going on.

Smith and Gilchrest are facing insurance fraud and forgery charges. They were released without bail.
