Emergency landing shuts down Westchester airport

A private plane made an emergency landing Friday, forcing the runways to shut down at Westchester County Airport.
The pilot of a Piaggio Avanti 180 twin engine plane, coming from Teterboro Airport, called to say he was having trouble with his landing gear around 8 a.m. Officials say after circling for about 15 minutes, the pilot decided to land with the gear up.
There was one other pilot on the plane, which can hold a total of 11 people, but no passengers. Airport officials say the landing went smoothly and neither pilot was hurt. The main runway at the airport was shut down for cleanup and removal of the plane. The closing caused delays for all the commercial flights and larger corporate jets.
