Grand jury hears testimony in immigrant's death
A grand jury heard testimony Tuesday in White Plains about the role three Mount Kisco police officers possibly played in the death of an illegal immigrant.
A key part of the testimony centered around where Officer George Bubaris went after the police officers responded to a call involving the victim, Rene Perez. Surveillance video from the nearby Bedford estate of billionaire Nelson Peltz shows Bubaris' vehicle in the area where Perez was found.
The homeless immigrant called 911 in April from a Mount Kisco Laundromat. He was later found barely alive on Byram Lake Road in Bedford and later died.
Bubaris, along with Officer Edward Dwyer and Lt. Edward Dunnigan, have denied leaving the man to die out of their jurisdiction after determining his call was not a police matter.
The testimony will determine whether the officers will face charges in the case.
