Two teens were seriously injured after a young driver, allegedly dunk, mowed them down on a Montgomery street Saturday night.
Police say the driver, 24-year-old Craig Ghio, had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit when he crashed into the teens and subsequently fled the scene. Ghio hit them as they were crossing a street to watch fireworks that were part of the town?s Montgomery Day festivities, according to police.
Pablito Pinero, 15, suffered fractured legs and back injuries. Early reports said he was permanently paralyzed from the neck down, but further tests proved that was not the case.
Pinero and the other teen, whose name has not been released, were taken to Horton Medical Center in Middletown, but were later transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla due to the severity of their injuries.
The teen girl is in a medically induced coma and has several broken bones.
Police arrested Ghio and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident and driving drunk. He is held at the Orange County Jail on $75,000 bail.
