Man shot dead on Yonkers street
Yonkers police are investigating after a man was shot dead on a city street Saturday.
Many residents say they saw a man as he lay dying at the intersection of St. Andrews and Gray places. Residents say they heard a number of loud shots just after midnight Friday, but did not hear an argument or other signs of problem beforehand.
Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. They believe they have identified the man but are not releasing his name.
Police dredged the sewers looking for the weapon, used metal detectors to locate any possible shell casings and even had a K-9 unit sweep the entire crime scene.
While the area is known for being part of the turf for the Vatos Locos street gang, police say the shooting is not gang-related. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7725.
