Police have arrested a Mount Vernon High School student they say shot and killed a man during a robbery.According to police, 17-year-old Dwight Williams murdered 28-year-old Jawara Miller after robbing him on West First Street on September 15. Police say during the robbery there was a physical altercation in which Williams shot Miller in the back of the head. Miller lived in the Bronx, but his mother lived around the corner from where her son lost his life. After weeks of searching, Mount Vernon police finally caught up to Williams after he was arrested by the NYPD Tuesday in relation to another crime. Police searched the teen's home Wednesday and say they found evidence linking him to the fatal shooting.
Miller?s arrest saddened Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis, who is neighbors with the teen on Esplanade Avenue. Davis says the crime illustrates what guns can do in the wrong hands.
Miller was arraigned on murder charges and is being held in Westchester County Jail with no bail. He is also facing criminal charges in New York City. Police there believe he is responsible for the robbery of a Mount Vernon man in the Bronx on September 25.
