3 arrested for possible sexual assault at WC school

Two 17-year-old boys and one 17-year-old girl were arraigned in Mount Pleasant Town Court Friday afternoon after the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

The two boys were charged with sexual abuse, while the female suspect was charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say the female suspect arranged for the sexual assault to occur.

Police said the incident occurred Thursday afternoon in a wooded area on the campus of the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School, a treatment center for troubled teens. Investigators said the girl was missing from class, and when she was found, she told officials about the assault.

The victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center and evaluated.

The alleged incident doesn?t mark the first time a sexual assault has occurred on the Cedar Hills campus. A similar event happened in February when another 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three teen boys.

?We?re taking the matter seriously,? Cedar Knolls School Superintendent Mark Silverstein said. ?We will do an investigation and continue to work with police.?

Now, Mount Pleasant town officials want the two state agencies already investigating the treatment centers to do more to improve the situation.

?There are just too many incidents burdening our community,? Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Robert Meehan said. ?[The] police department respond[s] to incidents and that cost goes to taxpayers.?

The boys and girl charged are being held at the Westchester County Jail. They will be in court next week.
