Excessive speed may be to blame for deadly crash
Investigators say speeding is one possible cause for a fatal two-car crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh.
The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Thursday near Route 100-B. According to police, 20-year-old John Holowiak, of Hastings, and his passenger, 18-year-old Pejpaul Basdeo, were riding in the center lane. Police say when Holowiak tried to switch lanes he rear-ended a green car, forcing both vehicles down an embankment. The driver of the green car, a 75-year-old man from upstate New York was killed. Police say the victim?s wife, who was trapped in the vehicle, is clinging to life at Westchester Medical Center. Holowiak and Basdeo were also taken to the hospital.
Investigators say Holowiak?s excessive speed is a probable cause of the crash. The state police reconstruction team is still trying to piece together exactly what happened. No charges have been filed yet against Holowiak.
