Snowfall blamed for 6-car pileup in Yonkers

One to three inches of snow blanketed Westchester and the Hudson Valley Sunday, causing a six-car pileup on one roadway.
The vehicles collided at Park Hill Avenue and Waverly Place in Yonkers on a steep hill. Witnesses said the roadway is problem-prone during winter storms.
"This area ? always ices up, and you just slide and slide until you hit a pole or another vehicle," said Sam Riti.
The Yonkers Department of Public Works mobilized early to prevent more accidents, even though the storm was forecast for later in the day. "We anticipated the storm coming," said DPW Commissioner John Liszewski. "We started to prepare yesterday. We loaded the trucks with salt."
Reports of delays on railways and at airports also came into the News 12 newsroom as sleet and ice began to affect travel.
Sleet and feezing rain were seen in parts of the region into Sunday night.
