Off-duty NYPD cop found dead in Yonkers home

An off-duty NYPD police officer was found dead Wednesday at his Yonkers home from a gunshot wound to his head. Police say they were called to the Whitman Avenue home by family members around 11 p.m. after they heard a shot. According to police, 29-year-old Joseph John died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The medical examiner confirms the shooting wasn?t a homicide. Investigators are trying to determine if the shooting was an accident or a suicide.John lived in the home with his mother and wife, whom he recently married. He moved to there about two years ago. Police say John was a three-year veteran of the NYPD assigned to the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx.
