Icy roads cause 13-car crash in Rockland County
Nearly two dozen people were involved in a 13-car accident on the Garden State Parkway Sunday night.
Police say the accident started just after 5 p.m. on Sunday and completely shut down the northbound stretch of the parkway for over two hours. Authorities say the first group of cars drove over black ice on an overpass, causing them to spin out and crash into each other.
The remaining cars followed in the same manner, authorities say. There were 13 cars and 22 people involved in the crash, and police say it is a miracle that no one was seriously injured. They also say the crash should serve as a reminder of how careful drivers must be during inclement weather.
By 8 p.m. nine of the 13 vehicles were loaded on to flatbeds and towed away. No one has been formally charged or ticketed, but police say they?re still investigating the crash.
