Sinkhole swallows part of dump truck in Pelham Manor

The earth opened up and partially swallowed a garbage truck Monday in Pelham Manor, leaving some pointing fingers at Con Edison.
"We were backing up ? and the ground just collapsed. I got scared, I got nervous. So I just jumped out," said driver Danny Greenhill.
According to Greenhill, Con Edison had recently laid new gas lines at the site near Colonial and Highbrook avenues. Greenhill suggested the recent rainfall may have weakened the newly paved area.
Some of the tires sunk 12 inches into the ground. The vehicle was eventually put upright and taken in for a checkup.
