PGA still in talks to tee off in Westchester again
PGA officials said Monday they're in talks with a Harrison country club to determine if the Barclays Classic will return this year or move to New Jersey.
The PGA said several issues need to be resolved with the Westchester Country Club. They include needing more time to prepare for the tourney, having more access to the golf course itself and boosting disappointingly low attendance.
If the PGA moves to Paramus, N.J., Harrison and the county will lose out on a $3.5 million, six-year contract. The tournament has been at the club since 1963 and helps raise money for local charities.
However, many business owners and locals said the tourney didn't have much affect on them anyway.
"Personally, I don't care either way," said Harrison resident Glen Hochman. "I'm not a golf fan."
Some storeowners said they only see a minimal boost in their bottom lines when the event comes to town.
