Police arrest driver for allegedly hitting 9-year-old

(01/22/08) YONKERS ?Police have arrested a driver after sheallegedly hit a 9-year-old boy trying to catch a school bus in YonkersMonday.Witnesses saythe driver, a female in her mid-20s, struckthe boy with her gold Honda as he ran across the street in front of 85 RiverdaleAve. The boy had apparently missed his bus, butwas running to catch another. Theincident took place around 8:30 a.m.?Ihear a boom when I see a little kid on top of the Honda,?says witness Darren Lefever. ??thecarstopped and threw him back into the street.?The driver,who witnesses say was in her pajamas, was arrestedfor driving with a suspended license. Witnesses also say at the time of the accident, a schoolbus had itsflashing lights on and its stop sign out.The 9-year-oldboy was taken to Jacobi Medical Centerwith a broken leftleg. He is athird-grader at School 16on North Broadway.Police havenot released the identities of the victim or thesuspect. Chargescould be upgraded basedon the findings of accident scene investigators.
