Woman struck by garbage truck in Cortlandt

A Buchanan woman was seriously injured Tuesday after she was struck by a garbage truck in the Cortlandt Town Center.

According to police, a truck from Suburban Carting was going through the parking lot of the center when it struck the 35-year-old woman in front of a McDonald?s. The woman spent about a half hour pinned under the truck as firefighters worked to free her. Police say she suffered serious injuries to her left leg and left side. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center. Troopers say they are having trouble finding anyone who witnessed the accident. They say there is no indication the driver of the garbage truck was impaired in any way.

A spokesperson for Suburban Carting declined to comment on the accident except to say that the driver of the garbage truck is one of their more experienced employees.
