Two trash haulers have been indicted on charges they overcharged Mount Vernon to the tune of about $1.25 million.
Albert Tanquillo III and Michael Pizzolongo allegedly charged the city four times what it typically paid. Federal officials had been conducting an investigation into their dealings for some time and raided City Hall prior to the election last November.
The pair allegedly ran a scheme in which they would falsify records in order to overcharge the city. The scheme was allegedly orchestrated over a four-year period.
Tranquillo is currently serving time for another crime. Pizzolongo was arraigned Wednesday and released on $200,000 bail.
