Boy killed after being hit by car in Mt. Vernon

A boy believed to be about 10 years old was struck and killed by a car during the evening rush in Mount Vernon Thursday.

The child was hit by at least one car and possibly two on South Fulton Avenue. He was taken to the South Shore Medical Center about an hour after suffering severe head trauma.

Police say the accident was not a hit-and-run. Authorities are remaining tight-lipped on details, and it is not yet clear whether criminal charges are pending.
