Westchester to tackle flooding problems
Elected officials in Westchester say more than $50 million will be spent during the next five years to address flooding problems in the county.
Rep. Nita Lowey and County Executive Andrew Spano say the projects include a $6.65 million study by the Army Corps of Engineers of the area in Mamaroneck where two rivers, the Sheldrake and Mamaroneck, meet.
Mamaroneck suffered the area's worst flooding problems in April 2007.
Spano said Monday that other flood projects are being undertaken in Scarsdale, Tarrytown, Rye and Rye Brook.
Businesses such as Bilotta Kitchens and Bath spent more than $2 million renovating after the devastating floods in 2007, and managers there say they're skeptical the funds will take care of the problem.
