Police: Sleeping driver may have caused crash
Police believe a woman who fell asleep at the wheel was responsible for causing a three-car crash in Harrison that injured two people Monday morning.
The driver was apparently heading south on I-684 and suddenly wound up on the opposite side of the highway. She crashed into a dump truck at around 8:15 a.m. The truck driver then swerved to avoid the car and hit another vehicle.
?I believe she probably passed out or fell asleep on the road and lost control and then just swerved onto the northbound lane,? State Trooper Lenon Charles says.
The woman in the first car was taken to Westchester Medical Center with back, neck and chest injuries. The driver of the second car was taken there by ambulance with neck pain. Both are expected to be OK. The driver of the truck had no injuries.
The accident shut down northbound lanes of I-684 near exit 2 for most of the morning rush hour.
