Filing tips to get the most from new tax credits
As the deadline to file taxes looms, News 12 Westchester has some helpful tips about new tax credits that may help filers get some cash back.
Certified Public Accountant Howard Weintraub has owned an accounting business in White Plains for 25 years. He says now, more than ever, filers should avoid the do-it-yourself computer programs and Web sites and let a professional handle it.
?You can get yourself into trouble by trying to go through those worksheets and not really know what you are doing,? says Weintraub.
Weintraub says filers who were out of work in 2008 are entitled to a break.
"All those expenses related to seeking a job are tax deductible,? says Weintraub.
Many Americans saw their retirement and investments take a hit. Unfortunately, Weintraub says there is no tax relief for that hardship.
There is some good news for those in desperate need of their refund checks. There are new, easier and faster ways to get that cash.
According to Weintraub, ?If you include your account routing number the IRS will do a direct deposit into your account."
