New Yankee Stadium formally opens
The first regular-season game at the new Yankee Stadium ended on a sour note, with the Bronx Bombers losing 10-2 to the Cleveland Indians Thursday.
CC Sabathia started the home opener vs. the Tribe. Cliff Lee took the mound for the Indians.
Thursday started out well for the Bombers. Yogi Berra threw out the first pitch at the new $1.5 billion ballpark, and Yankees legends from years past made an appearance.
Fans who stood for hours to purchase tickets for the game were excited to see their favorite team in action and optimistic about the rest of the season.
"I think they are excellent," says Peter Mapes, of Sloatsburg. "They got a real good shot"
