Police: Woman jumps off Tappan Zee Bridge

Police and firefighters rescued a woman after they say she suddenly got out of her car and jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge Thursday.

State police say the incident began unfolding at around 4 p.m. when a female driver parked her car on the bridge, quickly walked to the edge and jumped into the water. She was later rescued by boats and taken to Nyack Hospital. It is unclear whether the woman, who is believed to be in her 20s or 30s, sustained any serious injuries.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the apparent suicide attempt.
