Police nab 3 in attempted Bedford burglary
Two women and a man from Brooklyn were arrested Tuesday for attempting to burglarize a home in Bedford, police say.
According to authorities, Eva Grodek and Ella Bobek, both of Brooklyn, entered a home on Aspetong Road through an unlocked door. The homeowner spotted the two women, who claimed they worked at a nearby residence and were searching for a lost cat. The story appeared suspicious to the homeowner, and she called police.
Police say that is when Grodek and Bobek took off and ran to a getaway car that was driven by Adam Scala, also of Brooklyn.
"She knew right away that something was wrong, that no one was supposed to be in the house, and that these people acted very suspicious," says Lt. Robert Mazurk, of the Bedford Police Department.
The homeowner was able to give the responding police officers a clear description of the female suspects and of the vehicle. When police located the car a few miles away, Grodek and Bobek were found hiding inside.
All three suspects were charged with attempted burglary and criminal trespassing. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday evening.
