Nanuet pool evacuated after chemical spill

A tanker-truck carrying 4,000 gallons of liquid chlorine sprung a leak in Nanuet Friday, resulting in the evacuation of some 400 people from a local pool.
The incident occurred on First Street near College Avenue. Fire officials say the truck had a rusted pipe, which caused 2,500 gallons of the chemical to leak into Naurashan Creek.
Fire officials say the water in the creek is moving so fast that the chemical is dissipating.
The nearby Lake Nanuet Pool was evacuated after the smell of chlorine became unbearable. No injuries were reported.
Lake Nanuet Pool will be closed until Saturday.
