Hospital worker arrested in hepatitis scare

Former patients of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco say news that a former employee has been arrested in a hepatitis C scare is disconcerting.

Police say 26-year-old Kristen Parker was arrested in Colorado and admitted that while working at the Rose Medical Center in Denver she stole syringes filled with a painkiller and shot up.

Parker, who contracted hepatitis C, says she'd then refill the dirty syringes with saline and put them back in circulation. Authorities say least 10 patients in the Denver hospital have tested positive for hepatitis C.

Parker worked at Northern Westchester Hospital from October 2007 to February 2008. Northern Westchester Hospital officials say they have started notifying the more than 3,000 patients Parker had exposure to.

Officials at Northern Westchester Hospital say it is not clear if Parker had the disease when she worked there.
