Minnie the elephant makes history in Nyack
The Amazing Grace Circus kicked off its series of performances at Memorial Park by marching an elephant down Main Street Saturday for the first time in the town's history.
The massive mammal named Minnie was followed by mounted police, circus performers and fire trucks. After the parade, children had a chance to meet the 700-pound, 5-year-old elephant in person.
"We have the greatest little show on earth in the greatest little village on earth," says Nyack Mayor John Shields.
Adults and kids alike will have a chance to enjoy circus shows at Memorial Park for the first time in a century.
