Autopsy: Taconic crash driver was healthy
Autopsy results show the driver involved in Sunday's fatal Taconic State Parkway crash did not suffer from any significant medical problems.
However, relatives say 36-year-old Diane Schuler, of West Babylon, Long Island, called her brother before the crash, saying she was feeling ill. According to police, Schuler went in the wrong direction and slammed into an SUV, resulting in the death of eight people, four of them children.
While investigators await Schuler's toxicology results, firefighters and paramedics who responded to the crash are seeking grief counseling.
"We're talking and crying together," says EMT Alison Fimognari. "We're in the same boat."
